Luxurious Private Guest Houses

Africa is Inspiration—Your Pumziko Room is Relaxation

Relax and enjoy The Views

We didn't craft the landscape, but we did craft The Views! Each private guest house comes with an oversized deck and incredible views. We're talking views that can be enjoyed from the hammock on your private oversized deck or from the cozy seating area next to your crackling fireplace and even, from atop your soft, inviting, bed.

These are transporting views that wrap you in a tapestry of African beauty and grandeur – Shimmering Lake Manyara, pink-hued from a million flamingos; Rolling valleys and soaring walls of the Great Rift, literally in your yard; And the vibrant majesty of Highland forests flowing from the rim of Ngorongoro Crater, a place even you may begin to call the Garden of Eden.

Yes, the magical views will transport you far from your daily concerns, but as our lot is decidedly less transcendent, the rigors of travel and safari will predictably have your body requesting a moment, or two, of your time. So indulge!

Indulge in the caress of an African breeze

Indulge in the scented, warm waters of your deep, comfortable tub. Indulge in the caress of the African breeze as your private, open-air rain shower washes away your physical cares. As it turns out, shooting stars and the Milky Way pair quite nicely with soothing evening showers. They also pair nicely with private decks, comfy chairs, reclined feet and Stellenbosch Pinotage. At least that's been our experience.

Fall in love with her beauty

Pumziko's rock-walled, thatched-roof and sheer-draped individual retreats are indeed crafted to soothe you, body and soul. But, we've not forgotten your heart. You are in Africa. You should experience her. And since the fairest path to the heart of a place and its people is through its expression, its art - each retreat is lovingly themed after one of the regal tribes of Tanzania and its art—even our bowl sinks we're handcrafted from our neighboring village.

In your room you are surrounded by art and artifacts from either the proud Iraqw tribe, our neighbors and good friends, or the iconic, red-robed, pastoralist-hunter Maasai, the famed musician-dancer Sukuma, the mysterious Hadza Bushmen, the Chagga farmers of Kilimanjaro, or the Makonde, world-renowned for their mystical wood carvings.

The art in your room gifts your heart a piece of Africa. It helps tie it all together - body, heart and soul. And, in keeping with the idea of tying it all together, the main lodge building brings together art from every tribe represented in the individual rooms. Since you'll be the latest expert on your tribe, maybe you'll make friends and swap stories with another new expert or two. We'd like that. This land and her people have welcomed us and inspire us daily. It is now our pleasure to welcome you.
